Coffee Production & Association

Uganda is globally recognised as one of the leading exporters of coffee, renowned not only for its scale of production but also for the exceptional quality of its beans. At Shika Mkono, we saw an opportunity to harness this national strength for sustainable community impact. Our farm, located in the heart of Uganda, spans 20 acres and produces premium-grade coffee. Beyond generating revenue that sustains our initiatives, the farm provides meaningful employment and equips workers with vital agricultural and business skills. As global demand for coffee continues to rise, this project ensures that local communities are not just participants but beneficiaries of Uganda’s thriving coffee industry.

Dairy Farming & Livestock

Cows are more than livestock  they are a cornerstone of sustainable development. At Shika Mkono, our dairy initiative reflects our commitment to building a circular economy that nourishes both people and the land. Our herd produces milk for local consumption and sale, while also contributing to broader economic sustainability. Young calves represent future livelihoods, beef provides nutrition, and cow dung is transformed into organic manure that enriches our crops. This cycle reduces waste, strengthens food security, and ensures that every part of the resource contributes to the community’s well-being and resilience.

Grain Milling Operations

Our grain milling project transforms maize into valuable, market-ready products while supporting the cycle of sustainability at the core of Shika Mkono’s mission. The mill not only produces feed for livestock but also creates refined grain products with higher market value. This initiative generates local jobs and provides training in machine operation, processing, and quality control. As a result, workers gain transferable skills that make them more competitive in the broader workforce. What begins as a simple grain becomes a pathway to economic growth and community empowerment.

Renewable Energy Solutions

Access to electricity is a foundation for opportunity, yet nearly 750 million people around the world still live without it (IEA). At Shika Mkono, we are determined to help close this gap in Uganda. By investing in solar energy, we harness Uganda’s abundant sunlight to create affordable, renewable power. Reliable electricity enables safer communities, supports education, powers businesses, and connects people to the digital world. We believe that energy access is not only about lighting homes, but about igniting potential accelerating progress and lifting families out of poverty.

Jobs & Empowerment

To date, Shika Mkono has created 678 jobs and impacted the lives of over 3,600 people across our projects. But we know that true empowerment is about more than employment  it’s about equipping individuals with the tools to thrive long into the future.
We believe that young entrepreneurs often lack three critical resources: capital, skills, and networks. At Shika Mkono, we ensure that every individual we work with gains not only a salary, but also access to training, mentorship, and opportunities that build lasting independence.
Our vision is to nurture entrepreneurs and business leaders who will drive innovation, create new jobs, and become agents of transformation in their communities. Every job created today is a seed planted for a stronger, self-sustaining Uganda tomorrow.
